为杜仲科植物杜仲的树皮，《雷公炮炙论》：“凡使杜仲，先须削去粗皮。用酥、蜜炙之。凡修事一斤，酥二两，蜜三两，二味相和令一处用。”
杜仲（种植）各家论述
据《本草纲目》记载：“杜仲，古方只知滋肾，惟王好古言是肝经气分药，润肝燥，补肝虚，发昔人所未发也。盖肝主筋，肾主骨，肾充则骨强，肝充则筋健，屈伸利用，皆属于筋。杜仲色紫而润，味甘微辛，其气温平，甘温能补，微辛能润，故能入肝而补肾，子能令母实也。”

【性味】 味甘，性温
【归经】 归肝、肾经
呈板片状或两边稍向内卷，大小不一，厚3～7mm。外表面淡棕色或灰褐色，有明显的皱纹或纵裂槽纹；有的树皮较薄，未去粗皮，可见明显的皮孔；内表面暗紫色，光滑。质脆，易折断，断面有细密、银白色、富弹性的橡胶丝相连。气微，味稍苦。
