This herb is often used with Fr. Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Yi Zhi Ren.
It is considered a medicinal of the Liver, Kidneys and Ming Men.
Use alone as a powder for frequent urination during pregnancy.

Both Sang Piao Xiao and Fr. Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Yi Zhi Ren Warm and tonify the lower base, astringe the urine and Jing and are used to treat Deficiency Cold in the Lower Jiao leading to enuresis, urinary frequency and spermatorrhea. They are often combined to strengthen Kidney Yang and astringe Jing. Sang Piao Xiao is primarily used for lower Jiao Deficiency Cold, while Yi Zhi Ren warms the Spleen, astringes saliva and halts diarrhea.
Both Sang Piao Xiao and Endoconcha Sepiae Hai Piao Xiao enter the Kidney channel to retain Jing. Hai Piao Xiao is salty, astringent, slightly warm and stops bleeding, dries Dampness, stops vaginal discharge, controls gastric acidity and stops pain, but does not tonify. Sang Piao Xiao is sweet, salty, neutral, tonifies the Kidneys and more strongly astringes Jing and urine.

为螳螂科动物大刀螂、南方刀螂、广腹螳螂的卵鞘。

【性味】 味甘，咸；性平

略呈圆柱形或半圆形，由多层膜状薄片叠成，长2.5～4cm，宽2～3cm。表面浅黄褐色，上面带状隆起不明显，底面平坦或有凹沟。体轻，质松而韧，横断面可见外层为海绵状，内层为许多放射状排列的小室，室内各有一细小椭圆形卵，深棕色，有光泽。气微腥，味淡或微咸。
