为唇形科植物草石蚕的块茎及全草，于春、秋季采收，挖取块茎，洗净，晒干；
性喜温暖，忌高温潮湿，生育适温15～25度，栽培土质以肥沃之砂质土壤为佳，排水需良好，滞水不退易腐烂。
草石蚕各家论述
《江西民间草药》记载：“根茎，主妇人黄白带，湿热黄疸，手脚拘挛，骨节痛。”
草石蚕性状
【性味】 味甘，性平。
【归经】 归肺，肝，脾经。
根茎多呈纺锤形，顶端有的呈螺旋状，两头略尖，表面棕黄色，多皱缩，扭曲，
具5-15个环节，节间可见点状芽痕及根痕。质坚脆，易折断，断面平坦，白色。气微，味微甘。用水浸泡后易膨胀，节结明显。
