The ripe seeds of the annual plant Euryale ferox Salisb. of the family Nyphaeace.

芡实概述(益肾固精 补脾止泻 祛湿止带)
别名 鸡头米、鸡头苞、鸡头莲、圆粒芡实、芡实瓣
为睡莲科植物芡的成熟种仁。9～10月种子成熟时，割取果实，击碎果皮，取出种子，除去硬壳晒干。种子含淀粉，供食用、酿酒及制副食品用；全草为猪饲料，又可作绿肥。
芡实各家论述
《神农本草经》记载：“主湿痹腰脊膝痛，补中除暴疾，益精气，强志，令耳目聪明。”
芡实性状
【性味】味甘、涩；性平
【归经】 归脾、肾经
种仁类圆球形，直径5～8mm，有的破碎成块。完整者表面有红棕色或暗紫色的内种皮，可见不规则的脉状网纹，一端约1/3为黄白色。胚小，位于淡黄色一端的圆形凹窝内。质地较硬，断面白色，粉性。气无，味谈。
