太子参是《中国药典》收录的草药，为石竹科植物孩儿参的干燥块根，6～7月茎叶大部枯萎时收获，生于山坡林下和岩石缝中。
喜生长在温暖湿润的环境，怕高温，喜肥沃疏松、含有丰富腐殖质土壤，砂质土壤中生长良好。太子参已被卫生部确定列入“可用于保健食品的中药材名单”。
太子参各家论述
《陕西中草药》记载：“补气益血，健脾生津。主病后体虚，肺虚咳嗽，脾虚腹泻，小儿虚汗，心悸，口干，不思饮食。”
太子参性状
【性味】 味甘、微苦，性平。
【归经】 归脾、肺经。
呈细长纺锤形或细长条形，稍弯曲，表面黄白色，较光滑，微有纵皱纹，凹陷处有须根痕，顶端有茎痕；质硬而脆，断面平坦，淡黄白色，角质样；或类白色，有粉性。气微，味微甘。
