为五味子科植物冷饭团的根及蔓茎；经采集后将其切片，晒干入药。
生于山地疏林中，常缠绕于大树上，茎下部僵伏土中，上部缠绕，枝圆柱形，棕黑色，疏生白色点状皮孔。生于海拔1500-2000米的林中。

《广西本草选编》记载：“活血祛风，散瘀消肿，行气止痛。主风湿骨痛，胃痛，产后腹痛，痛经，疝气，跌打损伤。”
黑老虎性状
【性味】 味辛，微苦，性温。
根圆柱形，略扭曲，直径1-4cm，表面深棕色至灰黑色，有多数纵皱纹及横裂纹，弯曲处裂成横沟；质坚韧，不易折断，断面粗纤维性，栓皮深棕黑色，皮部宽厚，棕色，易剥离，嚼之有生番石榴味，渣滓很少。
木质部浅棕色，质硬，密布导管小孔。气微香，味微甘、后微辛。藤茎断面中央有深棕色的髓部，气味较根淡。以条大小均匀，皮厚色黑，气味浓者为佳。
