The ripe fruit of the perennial woody plant Rosa laevigata Michx. of the family Rosaceae.

金樱子概述(固精涩肠 缩尿止泻)
为蔷薇科植物金樱子的干燥成熟果实，采集加工10-11月果实成熟变红时采收，干燥，除去毛刺。喜生于向阳的山野、田边、溪畔灌木丛中，海拔200-1600米；
根皮含鞣质可制栲胶，果实可熬糖及酿酒；根、叶、果均入药；此花有栽培，具有较高的园艺和经济价值。《本草新编》记载：“金樱子，世人竞采以涩精，谁知精滑非止涩之药可止也。遗精梦遗之症，皆尿窍闭而精窍开，不兼用利水之药以开尿窍，
而仅用涩精之味以固精门，故愈涩而愈遗也。所以用金樱子，必须兼用芡实、山药、莲子、薏仁之类，不单止遗精而精滑反涩，用涩于利之中，用补于遗之内，此用药之秘，而实知药之深也。”
金樱子各家论述
《本草经疏》记载：“《十剂》云，涩可去脱。脾虚滑泄不禁，非涩剂无以固之。膀胱虚寒则小便不禁，肾与膀胱为表里，肾虚则精滑，时从小便出，此药（金樱子）气温味酸涩，入三经而收敛虚脱之气，故能主诸证也。”
金樱子性状
【性味】 味酸、甘、涩，性平。
【归经】 归肾、膀胱、大肠经。
为花托发育而成的假果，呈倒卵形，长2～3.5cm，直径1～2cm。表面红黄色或红棕色，有突起的棕色小点，系毛刺脱落后的残基。
顶端有盘状花萼残基，中央有黄色柱基，下部渐尖。质硬。切开后，花托壁厚1～2mm，内有多数坚硬的小瘦果，内壁及瘦果均有淡黄色绒毛。无臭，味甘、微涩。
