为马鞭草科植物马鞭草的全草，7～10月开花时采收，晒干。
马鞭草各家论述
据《本草经疏》记载：“马鞭草，本是凉血破血之药。下部匿疮者，血热之极，兼之湿热，故血污浊而成疮，且有虫也。
血凉热解，污浊者破而行之，靡不瘥矣。陈藏器谓其破血杀虫，亦此意耳。”
马鞭草性状
【性味】 味苦，性凉。
【归经】 归肝、脾经。
茎呈方柱形，四面有纵沟，表面绿褐色，粗糙，质硬而脆，断面有髓或中空；叶多皱缩破碎，绿褐色，边缘有锯齿；穗状花序细长，小花排列紧密，无臭，味苦。
