为菊科马兰属植物马兰，以全草或根入药。夏、秋采收。洗净，鲜用或晒干。
马兰各家论述
据《本草正义》记载：“马兰甘寒，最解热毒，能专入血分，止血凉血，尤其特长。凡温热之邪，深入营分及痈疡血热，腐溃等证，允为专药。内服外敷，其用甚广，亦清热解毒之要品也。”
马兰性状
【性味】 味辛，性凉。
【归经】 归肺，肝，胃，大肠经。
根茎呈细长圆柱形，着生多数浅细纵纹，断面柱形，直径2-3mm，表面黄绿色，有细纵纹，质脆，易折断，断面中央有白色髓。叶互生，叶片皱缩卷曲，多已碎落，完整者展平后呈倒卵形、椭圆形或披针形，被短毛，有的于枝顶可见关状花序，花淡紫色或已结果。瘦果倒卵状长圆形、扁平，有毛。气微，味淡，微涩。
