Origin
The dry ripe seed of deciduous tree Prunus persica (L.) Batsch or P. davidiana (Carr. ) Franch. of family Rosaceae.

桃仁概述(破血行瘀 润燥滑肠)
为蔷薇科植物桃或山桃的干燥成熟种子。果实成熟后采收，除去果肉和核壳，取出种子，晒干。
《本草纲目》记载：“桃仁行血，宜连皮、尖生用。润燥活血，宜汤浸去皮、尖炒黄用。或麦麸同炒，或烧存性，各随本方。双仁者有毒，不可食，说见杏仁下。”
桃仁各家论述
《药品化义》记载：“桃仁，味苦能泻血热，体润能滋肠燥。若连皮研碎多用，走肝经，主破蓄血，逐月水，及遍身疼痛，四肢木痹，左半身不遂，左足痛甚者，以其舒经活血行血，有去瘀生新之功，若去皮捣烂少用，入大肠，治血枯便闭，血燥便难，以其濡润凉血和血，有开结通滞之力。”
桃仁性状
【性味】 味苦、甘，性平。
【归经】 归心、肝、大肠经。
呈扁长卵形，长1.2～1.8cm，宽0.8～1.2cm，厚0.2～0.4cm。表面黄棕色至红棕色，密布颗粒状突起。一端尖，中部膨大，另端钝圆稍扁斜，边缘较薄。尖端一侧有短线形种脐，圆端有颜色略深不甚明显的合点，自合点处散出多数纵向维管束。种皮薄，子叶2，类白色，富油性。气微，味微苦。
