为棕榈科植物棕榈的成熟果实。始于《本草纲目拾遗》，栽培于村边、溪边、田边、丘陵地或山地。霜降前后待果皮现青黑色时采收，晒干。

棕榈子性状
【性味】 味苦，甘，涩，性平。
【归经】 归脾，大肠经。
果实肾形或近球形，常一面隆起，一面凹下，凹面有沟，旁有果柄根。长8-10mm，宽5-8mm，表面灰黄色或绿黄色，成熟者灰蓝色而被蜡被，平滑或有不规则网状皱纹，外果皮、中果皮较薄，常脱落而露出灰棕色或棕黑色坚硬的内果皮。种仁乳白色，角质。气微，味微涩而微甜。
